Mom Invents CuteSip Stainless Baby Bottle     1 comment

cutesipA Gwinnett county mom has come up with a new product designed to ease fears about chemicals used in plastic baby bottles and children’s cups.

Ghazaleh Coulter has two small children and another one on the way. She didn’t want to worry about chemicals in plastic baby bottles so she came up with the CuteSip cup system.

CuteSip is a dishwasher safe stainless steel bottle system with interchangeable lids that include nipples for newborns as well as transitional sippy cups and sport bottles.

The bottles are $17.95 each but Coulter says they are less expensive because they last for years. “You can buy two stylish bottles and put them in your diaper bag and you can just change the tops as the baby grows. The bottles last for a very long time, it’s not like the plastic sippy cups that smell after a while or get scratched or lost,” she said.

CuteSip bottles can be purchased at cutesip.com. The infant version is also featured on thegreenhalf.com.

Designer Duds and Other Bargains!     No comments yet

There are plenty of bargains to be found around metro atlanta this week.  Too many to count, but here are some of my favorites.

BJ’s Wholesale Club is offering 11Alive viewers a free 60 day pass that can be activated any time before July 5th. BJ’s is the only warehouse club that accepts manufacturer coupons. They also carry clothing lines like Calvin Klein and Nicole Miller. Click here for the 60 day pass.   I have always wanted to check it out!  I used to belong to another warehouse club but didn’t seem to shop there very often so I didn’t renew my membership.

K&G Fashion Superstore  has added some high end lines like Prada, Gucci and Armani priced at up to 70 percent off retail. (From Jessicashops.com)  I am sooo there!

Atlanta based Carter’s and Oshkosh children’s retailers are now selling online at carters.com. Discounts are available to those who sign up on their Facebook page.

IKEA has lowered prices on furniture, cookware and hundreds of others items from this same time last year.

Fernbank Museum of Natural History’s buy one get one free ticket deal ends Sunday, April 4th but through April t 18th there is a Spring Break special:  $5 off two tickets, or $10 off on a Value Pass for admission to the Museum and Imax Theatre.  Normally Adult tickets are $15 and  tickets for children 3-12 are $13.  Visitors should ask for the Spring Break Special.

On Monday, Scoutmob will have a downloadable coupon  for 50 percent off your entire purchase at Sam Flax Art Supply stores. Maximum discount is $25.00 off of $50.00.

Also this week ,Strawberries are a HUGE bargain at Publix: 4 for $5.00.  And look for Easter Candy and baskets to go on sale everywhere!  Grab your coupons and stock up!  Check expiration dates on the bags and throw some in your freezer.  My kids’  Easter baskets were full of clearance candy from Christmas and Valentine’s supplemented with Jelly Beans and Chocolate Bunnies.   I spent around $5.00 total.  :)

Low Cost Healthy Recipe and Bargains Too!     5 comments

Whew!

It’s my “Friday night” since my days off are Monday and Tuesday after anchoring 11Alive Weekend Morning News at 9am.

I made it home by around 2 this afternoon (GOOD day), then researched the grocery sales, played with the boys and headed out for some shopping by 4.

At CVS I took advantage of the Cover Girl Makeup Sale to try out the Cover Girl/Olay foundation which is normally $12.00-$16.00 but was down to $6.00  after coupons and Extra CAre Bucks.  It was a hassle.  The cash register didn’t want to accept my Buy One Get One Free Coupons from the February Proctor and Gamble Sunday Coupon Insert (BOGO).  Still, it worked out with a little patience on my part.  I’ve heard it is the best selling foundation in the country right now, so we’ll see how I like it.

Viewers a few weeks ago gave me a hard time on the the Morning News Live chat when they could see I was drinking not my usual Diet Coke, but Pepsi Max.  When it goes on sale.. what can I say?  I bought 4 12 packs today at Rite aid for $10.00. That’s $2.50 instead of the $4.00 Diet Cokes at most stores right now.   Diet Coke is my favorite but I’d rather save a few bucks! The Max also has extra caffeine, I hear.

My friend and co-worker Kathy started raising chickens and when “The Ladies” are laying, she brings eggs to work! This is fabulous! The first week they eggs were $1.00 a dozen due to being a little small; now they are up to $1.50.  For FARM FRESH eggs! They can cost $4.00 in some stores!

Our family had already started having omelettes or frittata every once in a while beacuse its quick and easy, you can pack it with healthy vegetables, it’s inexpensive and healthy. Eggs are an inexpensive protein and if you’re concerned about cholesterol you can eliminate one or more yolks.

AngelHairFrittata,jpg

Here’s a recipe from my email inbox from BJ’s Wholesale Warehouse.  I have never shopped there through I’ve heard they accept coupons (always a plus!)

I have had memberships at some of the other clubs in the past and for me personally, they were best for Bulk Spices,  Olive Oil, Artichoke Hearts, Olives, Fresh Salmon and sometimes, kid’s pajamas and sleepers.  Most don’t accept coupons.

Angel Hair Frittata – Recipe courtesy of BJ’s Wholesale Club

A solid brunch item – or for brinner (breakfast for dinner)

Serves 4 at $1.72 per serving

4 Tbsp. Extra Virgin Olive Oil

2 small Zucchini, sliced

1 Tomato, seeded and chopped

1 Green Onion, diced

4 cloves Garlic, finely minced

2 Tablespoons Black Olives

½ tsp. McCormick® Basil Leaves, crumbled

Eggs

Salt and Black Pepper

½ cup Grated Romano Cheese

6 oz. Angel Hair Pasta, cooked al dente

1. Heat 2 Tbsp. of oil in skillet over medium-high heat. Sauté fresh

vegetables and garlic until tender, about 3 minutes. 2. Stir in olives and

dried herbs. Set aside to cool. 3. Preheat broiler. Beat eggs and cheese in

large bowl. Stir in vegetables and pasta and season with salt and pepper.

4. Heat remaining oil in large oven-proof skillet over medium heat. Pour

egg mixture into pan and spread with spatula until veggies and pasta

are evenly distributed. 5. Cook until eggs are set and golden-brown on

bottom. 6. Immediately place skillet under broiler. Cook until top is set

and golden-brown, about 2 minutes. Carefully remove pan from oven.

7. Loosen edges with butter spreader. Carefully invert pan over large

plate and slide frittata out. 8. Cut into 4 wedges and serve immediately.

There was a small bit of collateral damage from our wall to wall Severe Weather Coverage: No Friday Freebies (at least not on TV)

Some of the elements did not get photographed, and the newscast had very little time (even for freebies??!!) because of weather coverage.
The GOOD NEWS is there is Free Stuff out there this week:

There is such a thing as a free lunch again this week!! Metromix.com has another Tuesday free lunch special.
The first 50 people in the door at KC Pitt Barbecue at 6317 Roswell road in Sandy Springs on April 14th get a free lunch as long as they mention Metromix. For more information call KC Pitt BBQ

Cinnebon is offering a sweet deal as well. Participating Cinnebon stores in local malls are giving away free classic bites cinnamon rolls on Tax Day, April 15th.

Rite Aid pharmacies are offering a free one month supply of more than 300 commonly prescribed maintenance generic drugs when you sign up for the Rite Aid prescription savings card.

And Kroger has a freebie as well. If you register on Kroger.com you can design a recyclable shopping bag as part of a contest Kroger is holding. Enter your Kroger plus card number and your next purchase will include a free Kroger recyclable shopping bag.

Local farm markets are reopening now that spring is here. The Peachtree Road Farmer’s market features organic produce and locally made goods. On the second Saturday of each month there is also a free cooking demonstration from a local chef.
